The role you’ll contribute:
Responsible for performing quality audits regarding coding functions for the facilities of: AdventHealth Memorial Medical Center (FHMMC), AdventHealth Oceanside (FHO), AdventHealth Deland (FHD), and AdventHealth Flagler (FHF). Identifies individuals and develops educational action plans in collaboration with the Coding Manager in order to assure accuracy for inpatient and outpatient coding. Facilitates and coordinates the monitoring of external coding audits to include RAC, Blue Cross, Humana, and other payer groups or regulated review agencies. Performs statistical analysis regarding Case Mix; monitors and reports findings to the Coding Manager and HIM Director. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan; to the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies; and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Responsible for logging all requests received by CMS regarding the Recovery Audit Contract program. Reviews charts and prepares spreadsheet for logging specific information regarding RAC activity. Submits information for the Finance Committee for the status of this activity.
Responsible for coordination of outside auditors for the purpose of coding audits.
Responsible for the reviewing outcome of audits; prepares and submits appeals as appropriate.
Performs quality audits on coding functions; audits are to include OIG listed DRGs, accounts without CCs. Performs random chart sampling per Coder.
Prepares monthly reports of quality reviews of the Coding staff for submission to the HIM Director and Coding Manager.
Develops education action plans in collaboration with the Coding Manager for Coders who perform below the level of expectation of coding accuracy.
Provides coding education for staff members who are placed on an action plan for coding improvement. Responsible for reviewing of charts for monitoring of quality and follow up.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Computer proficiency required.
Registered as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or high school graduate with certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Above knowledge requires two to four years in an HIM accredited program and or with successful completion of national certification exam.
Inpatient coding experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management with RHIA registration preferred or Associate of Science Degree in Health Information Technology with RHIT registration required.
Five (5) years total hospital experience required with RHIT.
Experience in CPT-4, ICD-9CM coding, OCE/NCCI edits required.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Registered as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or high school graduate with certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
