As a member of the George Washington University Hospital senior leadership team, the CQO is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and operational management of the quality and safety programs at The George Washington University Hospital. The CQO will have accountability for overseeing the analysis of quality-related data, coordination and measurement of internal and external quality and safety requirements and will provide leadership in strengthening a quality culture where all members of the health care team are treated with respect and inclusion.
In a rapidly changing healthcare environment where measures of quality, safety, and value are critical factors in an organization's identity and reputation the CQO must lead improvements in measures of quality, safety, and value. This is accomplished, in part, by partnering with Hospital Senior Leadership and George Washington University Faculty Physicians in the GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) and the School of medicine and Health Sciences to optimize quality and patient safety processes into hospital clinical operations and physician practices. In doing so, the CQO will work in partnership with the MFA Chief Quality Officer to ensure seamless quality continuum in both the inpatient and outpatient areas.
The CQO will be charged with advancing The George Washington University Hospital a leader in health care quality and safety among national academic health systems and regional providers, as evidenced by exceptional patient outcomes and performance rankings in the top ten percent by national metric systems.
MD or DO required.
Active License to practice in the District of Columbia.
Masters in a healthcare related field, advanced business degree, or Certification by a healthcare specific professional entity such as Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) is preferred
Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
Required Background Experience:
Ten years of progressive leadership responsibility in a complex health system required specific to quality, patient safety, and clinical operations which includes overall responsibility for long term strategic growth initiatives.
Experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred with a national reputation and a track record of scholarship related to quality and safety.
In-depth knowledge of national trends and active nationally within the quality, patient safety and performance improvement space.
Experience as a leader for performance excellence and quality in a complex organization.
Proven experience in establishing strategic priorities and building the infrastructure and team to implement large-scale initiatives and behavioral change across the organization.
Experience in strategic planning and collaboration with Hospital and Physician groups.
Experience with all phases of the strategic development lifecycle, including concept, design, implementation, verification and validation activities.
Demonstrated successful execution of quality and patient safety performance improvement strategies and tactics in complex health system is required.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills, including large scale project management.
Ability to synthesize various data inputs and drive multidisciplinary teams to consensus action and outcomes/deliverables.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others are required.
An individual who has successfully driven initiatives that require coordination from multiple constituencies.
Capacity, maturity, stature and communication skills to effectively interact with Hospital, Physician and University leadership.
Capable of working with staff at all levels and assisting them in their continued development, as well as enhancing their performance in a supportive team environment.
