JOB SUMMARY: This Virtual Desktop End User Engineer provides day-to-day maintenance, testing and validation of existing end user technologies and the management systems with occasional guidance.
Serve as the VUMC IT Desktop Engineering virtual technical support for the VUMC IT Enterprise Virtual Environment in support of over 30,000 Virtual Machines in 2 data centers.
Sustain the Virtual Environment.
Support major incidents pertaining to Virtual infrastructure.
Performing daily system monitoring
Performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to expedite incident resolution.
Develop scripts to gain efficiencies for reporting and automating repetitive tasks.
Proficient in VMware virtual infrastructure, including, but not limited to, vCenter Server Appliance, vRealize Operations Manager (vROps), and Horizon View.
Developing VMware vCenter and vROps reports for performance, troubleshooting and capacity planning.
Provisioning and cloning virtual machines and server appliances as needed.
Understand the difference between linked and instant clones, as both are used within VUMC IT.
Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) within a virtual environment.
Maintaining and restoring virtual machine "backups" and "snapshots".
Responding to support calls both during and after business hours/weekends/ holidays/shutdowns with on- call rotation 1 month out of every 6 months
Providing configuration management and security compliance for the virtual infrastructure software.
Developing and updating standard Documentation, operating procedures and user guides.
Completing service requests or incidents tickets in support of the virtual infrastructure.
Collaborating with vendors, customers, application owners and other teams as necessary for projects, tasks and customer support.
Providing technical leadership in support of projects requiring virtual resources.
VMware Horizon View Suite
Support all Windows OS versions
Understand Change Management/ITSM processes
Proficiency with MS Office (advanced level)
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline and 5 years of VMware engineering experience or have a minimum of 10 years of experience using VMware Horizon View (Client-Side support).
Able to pass VUMC background checks, preferred a Public Trust clearance.
VMware vCenter and VMware vCenter/vRealize Operations (vRops) Manager.
2 years of hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting
Working knowledge of multiprocessing, threading, concurrency, distributed systems, load balancing and high availability.
Interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively, self-awareness, and excellent written and oral communications.
Drive efficient resolution of all incidents through analytical and structured approaches to problem solving.
In-depth understanding of Active Directory, DNS and other Windows core services.
VMware vRealize Orchestrator
Ability to Obtain:
Learn new products and technologies.
Develop standard operating procedures and project documentation.
Research solutions for various business needs and technical problems; this includes evaluating alternatives and providing recommendations.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
Deploying and Sustaining Antivirus in virtual technology
Server virtualization technology, such as VMware or Hyper-V
