State University of New York System Administration The State University of New York (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs. The System includes 29 state-operated campuses, 30 community colleges and five statutory colleges administered by private institutions of higher education located throughout the State. The State University of New York System is the largest system of higher education in the country, serving more than 420,000 students in degree-granting programs, and 1.4M students total. The System includes diverse educational and research institutions, including three hospitals, a maritime college, a school of law, four medical schools, two dental schools, a college of optometry, and a DOE National Lab. SUNY also employs more than 91,000 faculty and staff statewide and connects more than 3 million alumni worldwide. Under the leadership of Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson, the Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs will join a highly collaborative executive leadership team working to advance the Chancellor’s strategic priorities: Individualized Learning, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Partnerships. Responsibilities: The Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs will work with campus and health sciences leaders to oversee and monitor the hospital operations and clinical platform and coordinate system-wide initiatives. The Vice Chancellor and the department will work to enhance current operations, enable research opportunities and create synergy among the SUNY health science centers. The candidate will provide oversight on matters relating to hospital operations, finances, faculty practice plans, quality assurance, compliance with federal and state regulations, quality improvement programs, and business and capital improvements undertaken by the University’s hospitals and academic medical centers. The Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs will be expected to work with Campus Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents, Health Sciences Deans, Medical Center Hospital CEO’s, Chancellor’s Executive Leadership Team, and other campus leaders to maintain effective management of the University’s health sciences and services enterprise. The position for Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs will be located in Albany at the System Administration headquarters. The Vice Chancellor of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs will be expected to maintain a primary residence in the Capital Region of New York State, traveling throughout New York State as required. Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate should have an expertise and understanding of healthcare workflows, establishing and meeting operational metrics, and aligning resources. This candidate should be a strategic and creative thinker with demonstrated strategic planning experience and the ability to use data analytics to support decision making and problem-solving. An understanding of healthcare markets, and alternative healthcare delivery strategies that support population health and health disparities is a plus. The candidate should have previous successful experience establishing productive and positive relationships with governing boards, policy advisory groups, and a broad spectrum of individuals with diverse perspectives; demonstrated ability to work difficult issues to resolution and to negotiate and facilitate diverse opinions and groups; experience identifying and acquiring resources to support programs and services. Other attributes that are vital to the position include the ability to act as a good team mentor; experience managing and supervising staff at all levels; experience managing complex budgets and capital projects that support a variety of programs and activities; and provide excellent written and oral presentations before various constituents, governmental agencies and outside organization.
