The Performance Optimization Specialist works closely with the Performance Optimization (PO) team to develop and execute plans and lead change to improve financial, clinical and operational performance at Tenet Hospitals. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Performance Optimization, the Performance Optimization Specialist provides change management and project management support to PO leadership and teams. The Performance Optimization Specialist will utilize knowledge and skills to provide services for the organization in order to develop, implement, and monitor more efficient, cost-effective business processes and strategies. This function increases the probability the organization can achieve its cost containment and quality and service improvement goals.
Utilizing a wide range of state of the art performance improvement methodologies including, but not limited to: statistical analysis, simulation and modeling, forecasting, quality control, operations research, human factors, lean/six sigma, facility planning, scheduling, and time/motion studies, this individual assists Tenet Hospital leadership in operating more efficiently and effectively. The Performance Optimization Specialist is also responsible for developing and administering performance improvement training curriculum as part of Tenetï¿½s continuous improvement culture.
The Performance Optimization Specialist will work to solve operational problems and improve levels of quality, service, or productivity throughout the Hospital environment This position will partner with both PO and Hospital leaders to ensure the strategies are executed at the local level. He/She will work directly with the PO team members and Hospital leaders to develop strategies and tactics that are in alignment with company goals. The Performance Optimization Specialist will focus on improving the availability and validity of information used in analysis, decision making, and monitoring operations performance.
The Performance Optimization Specialist will work in in alignment with the assigned Performance Optimization team and consistently demonstrate ability to:
Lead and collaborate with Performance Optimization teams Facilitate change
Work with leadership, frontline staff, and Physicians in identifying opportunities, assisting in the development and evaluation of alternatives and improvements, and leading or coaching in the establishment of implementation plans
Assist and participate in planning, defining, and validating analytics, strategy, and methodology for the organization
Design and recommend processes, systems, procedures, and operational changes to increase efficiency and effectiveness
Collaborating with key stakeholders and customer groups to determine general vision, data types, tools, and technology to measure performance Optimize tools, technology, and systems to help staff plan work more efficiently
Develop metrics, measures, reports, and dashboards to support key stakeholder and customer group needs
Measures and monitors performance, organizational effectiveness, and program impacts, through quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
Identifies trends or issues through analysis
Compare results against expected performance objectives
Present measures, metrics and survey results to key stakeholder groups, functional areas, and leaders to use in resolving issues, developing business, functional area and strategy, and driving business decisions
Provide proactive and appropriate communication to facility leaders and Executives
Provide coaching and mentoring to staff, coworkers, and leaders
The Performance Optimization Specialist will use a very participative approach and will work on a wide variety of engagements focused on financial, clinical and operational improvements across Tenet facilities.
These engagements typically focus on improving processes and systems by evaluating the current system, determining root causes of problems, and developing recommendations for improvement.
Types of work and engagements can include:
Work flow design
Scheduling of staff/patients
Work methods and procedures
Defining workplace needs and designing physical workplace layouts
The Performance Optimization Specialist also supports engagements by focusing on improving decision making, problem solving, or planning.
Labor Management System support and coaching
Statistical, mathematical, or graphical analysis
Developing tools to monitor the performance, costs, and effectiveness of operations
Cost benefit analysis
Design or implementation of departmental or Hospital wide information systems
Designing questionnaires or other data collection tools
Performance Optimization Specialists will use lean tools in conjunction with the PO team to develop and implement best practices to achieve organizational goals through effectively leading and managing change in a matrix environment. They will oversee the implementation of action plans and monitor progress toward goals by assisting with addressing barriers and challenges and making adjustments as needed in a supportive, synergistic manner. He/she collaborates with medical and nursing leadership, PO team members, and resource management, to develop and implement methods to optimize use of Hospital services.
Qualifications: Up to 75% travel
Advanced degree in Business, Nursing and/or Health Care Administration preferred. Ability to manage multiple sites, people and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines is required. The Performance Optimization Specialist must possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills as well as ability to mentor and develop others in this arena. Other required knowledge and experience includes:
Knowledge and demonstrated use of business consulting, analytics, business intelligence tools and operations research methodologies
Understanding principles associated with strategy and planning, execution and sustainability, transformation, integration and convergence, and revenue enhancement and expense reduction and apply these with minimal guidance in project work
Performing business case analysis and feasibility, including the examination of costs, benefits, and risks associated with the proposed investment or project. Recommend alternatives for solutions and highlight strategic implications
Experience applying process and systems engineering, analytics and operations research methods at every phase of a project (defining client needs and required functionality, documenting requirements, and design synthesis and system validation). Consider both the business and the technical needs of all stakeholders with the goal of providing a high quality product that meets the client needs
Comfortable clarifying and evaluating the feasibility of a projectï¿½s scope, goals, deliverables and milestones. Coordinate with the client to assure readiness for efficient and effective team engagement and utilization of services
Experience in identifying, recommending, and implementing transformation, including new staffing models, organizational structure, throughput, work flow, and skill/task alignment
Experience with data analysis, applied analytics, development of findings and recommendations, and presentation of solutions and deliverables
Up to 75% travel - as travel is required, we will run a MVR on the final candidate.
