New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) invite applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Departments of Pathology and Microbiology/ Immunology, and Director of Laboratory Services.
Providing leadership to 79 faculty in the Department of Pathology at NYMC, the Chair also oversees the Clinical Division of the Department of Pathology at Westchester Medical Center, which is accredited (with distinction) by the College of American Pathologists and has functioned as a reference laboratory for the State of New York. The Division operates specialized laboratories in Flow Cytometry, Transplant-Immunology, Special Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology-Serology, Cystic Fibrosis (which serves as the regional laboratory for diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and performs the largest number of these tests in the state), Microbiology-Parasitology-Mycology laboratory, and the General Core Laboratory which combines the functions of STAT laboratory with that of regular Chemistry, Hematology and Clinical Microscopy laboratories (providing key services 24/7). Westchester Medical Center Pathology Residency Program offers ACGME training for 12 residents.
The Department of Microbiology/Immunology currently comprises 42 faculty members in addition to research and support staff and graduate/medical students. Faculty research programs span bacterial, viral, and parasite pathogenesis, vaccine and diagnostic development, immunology and cancer. Departmental research support is provided by a variety of sources including the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health, Department of Defense, New York State, private foundations and biomedical corporations.
The new Chair will provide outstanding leadership to the clinical, teaching, and research programs within the Departments of Pathology and Microbiology/Immunology, support the well-established scientific and clinical programs and foster collaborative research partnerships across departments, the health network, medical college, and external commercial and nonprofit organizations. The Chair will recruit top faculty to enhance departmental leadership structures; develop and enhance educational programs for medical and graduate students, residents and fellows; expand research programs and resources; and pursue innovation and excellence in each of the core missions of both departments.
Successful candidates for the Chair and Director must be respected academicians with excellent clinical, teaching, research and operational skills. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience as a Chair, Division Chief or similar key leadership position and proven success in leading a diverse, complex and well-balanced department to achieve growth, loyalty and quality goals of the institution and the Department. A strong commitment to education and research, with the ability to recruit top faculty leaders, is required. The Departments support active research throughout the organization and the Chair must be able to evaluate scientific quality and support an environment that attracts and retains quality research within the Departments. Candidates must be Board Certified in Pathology and qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
