Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) seeks a dynamic, distinguished physician leader to serve as its next Chief Academic Officer. The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) has oversight for all academic activities involving research and education and participates in all strategic decisions and policy as a senior officer of LHMC. In this critical leadership role, the CAO must utilize outstanding leadership skills to navigate a large and complex clinical, teaching, and research enterprise.
The CAO reports to LHMC's Chief Executive Officer and is a member of LHMC's senior leadership team. As the Lahey Dean for Tufts University School of Medicine, the CAO has a relationship with and is accountable to the Dean at Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM).
The CAO at LHMC leads and oversees all aspects of the academic mission at LHMC. This includes oversight of all educational programs, research programs, the institutional review board, academic affiliation agreements, academic promotion, grants management, and continuing medical education. She/he sets the strategic academic vision for LHMC in partnership with physician and administrative leadership across the enterprise and is responsible for insuring compliance with regulations and regulatory bodies in all aspects of the academic mission. She/he will represent LHMC regarding academic programs with other entities in Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH).
The successful candidate will have a M.D., D.O. or equivalent terminal degree with significant experience in academic medicine and will have a demonstrated track record of championing excellence, leading change, and fostering engagement. As the academic administrative leader for LHMC, candidates should have strong business skills and an understanding of what it takes to help enhance the academic mission in a competitive environment. Exceptional communication skills, financial acumen, and a clear vision for advancing the academic mission in the midst of a changing healthcare and education landscape are essential for the next CAO.
