Clin/Tran Research Coord II (General Pediatrics)

Your Role:  

The Clin/Tran Research Coord will manage, independently or with general direction, the day-to-day operations of two large-scale, NIH-funded projects: 1) a longitudinal study examining the development of young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition from high school to adulthood; and 2) a 3-site randomized-controlled trial testing a parent advocacy intervention to improve the transition out of high school for youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families.  The Clin/Tran Research Coord II will oversee day to day operations, data collection, and management of study data. This person will also coordinate the 3 sites of the intervention project and manage the research activities of staff members hired to work on both projects.  

Duties and Responsibilities

The Clin/Tran Research Cood II will supervise and conduct day-to-day operations of both studies, including:

  • Oversee quality control, including assuring adequate training of new staff

  • Coordinate availability of space and supplies

  • Maintain knowledge of study protocols and ability to administer protocols; maintain manual documenting any revisions to protocols.

  • Prepare IRB amendments and annual reviews

  • Track study progress, identify and suggest solutions for operational problems, and ensure that deadlines are met.

  • Call potentially eligible families to tell them about the study.

  • Schedule and organize the clinic visit, including travel arrangements for research participants and coordination with clinic staff and the Clinical Research Center

  • Administering informed consent/assent, instruct parents and youth with disabilities in the completion of study interviews and questionnaires. Administer aspects of the clinic-based data collection that are not handled by the clinical staff.  Communicate with clinic staff regarding study procedures

  • Monitor data collection – depending on the project the Coordinator will either be directly collecting the data or monitoring research staff who are collecting the data

  • Monitor data entry into RedCAP (including assisting with data entry) and data cleaning

  • Actively participate in team meetings

  • Assist with preparation of abstracts and manuscripts

  • Preparation and assistance with required progress reports.

  • Supervise other staff and training them in administration of the research protocol

Additional duties for the intervention study include

  • Lead coordination and uniform implementation of the intervention and research protocol across three study sites

  • Work closely with project staff in adapting the intervention materials

  • Work closely with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center staff and state-wide autism/disability organizations to identify potentially eligible participants, gather community input on the intervention, and support community implementation

  • Attend program sessions and assist with technical details and collection of treatment fidelity data

  • Maintain a record that tracks the progress of participants in the study; identify and contact participants who are lagging behind; prepare regular reports for the PI.

Position Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 2 year experience

 

Preferred:

  • Experience recruiting research participants.

  • Experience administering a research protocol to human subjects.

  • Familiarity with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families

  • Excellent written, verbal, and people skills.

  • Excellent organizational ability, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of data entry and analysis programs such as SPSS and REDCap

  • Flexible schedule, with the ability to work some nights and weekends

  • Own transportation
