Peer review is one of the most respected activities in the circles of quality assurance and total quality management. A clear and transparent peer review process is an important component of ensuring consistent patient safety and quality care delivery. It is an essential part of credentialing and privileging in hospitals, ensuring that privileging decisions have an objective evidence-based process. Creating a clear and transparent peer review process is critical in helping generate a culture of caring and to the building of a trust relationship between the medical staff and the hospital.
At D-H, we strive to create a process that is objective and structured in a fashion that ensures due process for those Members who come under review. We strive for a peer review process that is well designed, understood, accepted and adhered to by all and furthers the creation of a culture of accountability.
The Professional Staff Peer Review Coordinator supports the D-H peer review process and coordinates system quality data collection and other resources to ensure best practices with respect to peer review and to track and trend provider performance.
Interacts with clinical leadership across the D-H System to support and educate them on the Peer Review Program.
Works in conjunction with the Care Improvement Committee Support Team.
(“CIC Support”) to coordinate the D-H peer review process.
Working with Quality and Patient Safety liaisons in each Professional Practice Enhancement Committee (“PPEC”), coordinates the reviews, analysis and summarization of medical records and other information for use in the D-H peer review process. Prepares agendas and coordinates the presentation materials at monthly PPEC meetings. Coordinates the preparation of the monthly PPEC-reports sent to CIC Support for submission to the Care Improvement Committee.
Oversees peer review data entered into the D-H system in a timely and accurate manner.
Maintains knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies standards and/or regulations pertaining to the peer review process.
Maintains a working knowledge of the D-H Professional Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies.
Provides support and assistance to PPECs as necessary to facilitate the D-H peer review process by coordinating cases referred for peer review.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with five (5) years of acute care, hospital-based clinical experience.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, process design, collaboration, teamwork and problem solving to achieve goals and successfully manage multiple competing priorities.
Working knowledge of clinical/provider peer review process, including confidentiality and/or experience in Quality Assurance.
Strong interpersonal skills, leadership/mentoring skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff across the D-H system and strong oral and written communications skills required.
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals at all levels to facilitate the peer review process.
Ability to review, summarize and analyze medical records.
Demonstrated proficiency in EMR, word processing, spreadsheet software, data entry and analysis required.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required.
