|The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field plus 10 years of accounting experience, including 5 years in a Controller/Accounting Manager level position which included responsibility for supervision of staff; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA certification is highly desirable. Experience with nonprofit organizations is preferred. The successful candidate will need the proven ability to cultivate and maintain cooperative, effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and to effectively communicate with and “teach” group leaders in the area of Finance, i.e., helping a non-finance professional to understand nonprofit financial statements, budgeting, proper account coding, and navigating regulatory and compliance issues as may arise. Individual must have a strong service orientation to non-finance professionals at all levels. Also required is comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and issues as well as a good understanding of nonprofit tax issues and grant accounting. Proven ability to set up and maintain business processes including implementation of nonprofit best practices. |
Other requirements include strong leadership, time management, technology, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and analytical/problem-solving skills. The proven ability to serve as the leader for the finance department staff is also needed.
